Parshah (parsha, parashah) is Hebrew meaning portion. In this case it is how the Torah (The Teaching, The Law, Pentateuch, Books of Moses) is sectioned into 54 pieces so that the whole Torah is read over the course of a lunar year.
There is also a part of the prophets called Haftarah that are added to the Parshah for reading along with the Torah.
As followers of Yeshua (Jesus) we also add part of the scriptures from the B'rit Chadashah (New Covenant).
Added together there is a large amount of scripture that is covered in one year.
At Oasis we love the scriptures! Not as much as we love Jesus but we love the instructions that He gives us. In our modern era biblical literacy is at an all time low among Christians despite the fact that the scriptures are now more accessible than any other time in history. At Oasis we emphasize reading, studying and meditating on the scriptures. We believe it is the final written authority on faith and practice for every follower of Jesus Christ. Often the Western church has ignored and/or misunderstood the Old Covenant scriptures. When the apostle Paul spoke to us about the text through his 2nd letter to Timothy (2 Tim 3:16-17) The only scriptures he had were the Old Covenant scriptures. Yet Paul was able to see Jesus in, not only the prophets and the writings, but also in Torah. At Oasis we really believe we should study all of the scriptures. Our weekly Parshah study helps us do that.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
